Overall Community Changes - Improvement for streamers and viewer interaction - EMOTES
Hello Mixer Team,
since I do not have a specific contact address for my inquiring I hope this somehow lands in the department where ideas are created and suggestions being heard.
I'm considering streaming, more specifically "Creativity & Art" for my future. Just yesterday I got back to Mixer wondering if this could be my new home.
I see that it has changed a lot from when I first came here. Back then it was still called "Beam" and mostly known for FTL streaming. A feature Twitch didn't even had back then.
Mixer's creative section is rather small, almost non existent.
Another thing I noticed that instead of categories Mixer uses the term "Games" and then list options with other categories such as "Music", "IRL", "Creative" and of course "Games". I'm beginning to wonder if Mixer which has it's origin within Microsoft does not want to appeal to streamers outside of gaming, because even the search bar has the label "search games". These are minor things, subtle but easy to change if Mixer wanted to, so why hasn't it? Looking at social media sites Mixer does seem to advertise with diversity for viewers and streamers. So why do you still cling to games instead of content?
Another subject I want to bring up are Stickers and emotes. especially since this is something I do for a while now. Currently I'm approving emotes for a 3rd Party App that injects emotes into the Twitch chat. I have reviewed over thousands of thousands emotes. Custom emotes, meme emotes and dank meme emotes. And I'm sad to see that there hasn't been much improvement on Mixer within the last few years. People asking for a bigger emote sizes for 2 years already. I do understand you have the sticker system which is a great feature but the way it is now it isn't half as appealing as emotes are that users are able to use global. I saw you even got into a partnership with Discord which is a massive plus if it includes using emotes globally on Discord for subscriber on Mixer. People love multi-platforming and connectivity, they subscribe for this content! Marketing wise I can not understand why you do not change your format. More over I can not believe how it doesn't seem possible to increase the emote size when you have another feature that uses an even larger size than any other platform. At least establish one of the systems. I do understand that the sticker reward system with ember and sparks is meant to create a service that diminishes the gap between paid content and free content. The "Skills" with the interaction is great but in the end it's nothing you can take with you as a viewer. Emotes can be implemented into the Service Discord and used. Not only does this create a strong recognition of a streamers label it also creates a stronger connectivity and therefore a stronger bond with the viewers. And it can also be used as advertisement directly for Mixer by having this feature. If Mixer does have the opportunity with Discord why not use it's full potential. However, for this to be happening it is crucial that Mixer applies to the standard that has been created and that means having the possibility to scale the size up to 32 x 32 pixel, as this is the standard for Discord. The chat size can be still only 28 x 28, but should have the possibility to scale up for Discord as a recommendation for your content creators. Give the community a better way of interacting while maintain a connectivity due to global features. I highly recommend to revise your emote and sticker system. Either make stickers the "new emotes" or improve the emote system so it can be transferred to other platforms such as Discord. People asking for a bigger emote size for years now. Having the 24 x 24 format feels like being in the 90's, wake up, we going into 2020 soon.
Another absolute important point and advise from someone who approves of emotes on a daily basis, I absolute can not understand your decision to let users choose common words for their emotes, especially on a "first comes first served" base. When I watched a video of one of your partnered Streamers from march I could not believe it. You must realize what problem this is causing. This should never have been a thing and I advice you to change to prevent further damage in the future. You are creating a huge social status gap between streamers that started now and got partnered early on with the ones who want to follow up. It is bound to cause disturbance and dissatisfaction not only between content creators but also between their respective community.
And in the end it doesn't even make much sense other than having early partnered streams monopolize words. Emotes are not supposed to substitute a word in a sentence, but rather an idea that can convey the emotion (hence the word emote). Your 90's style size can barely convey anything and the monopolization on emote names doesn't do that either. Another idea would be changing the format to a rectangle rather than a square, then the monopolizing on words would make sense, to make custom word emotes to pop up in a sentence.
On another matter, you want to create a family friendly environment, how come there are emote names such as "" "" etc. EDIT: funny enough they get flagged here, but are a thing in chat - " T I T " & " A S S ")
And something on the side - When I was looking for a way to reach out privately to one of your staff without having to process via the "support service" I was shocked to realize that half of your Team seems to have changed u should definitely update https://mixer.com/about/team.
I hope my perspective on things will make a difference and improve it for the sake of the growing community.
I would have loved to send you an inquiring with volunteering for helping you get started on the emote approval but at this point I really do not know who to contact.
