Most Categories do not need this but there are a few categories that it would be nice to have a sub category for. I do game development and design some times and don't want to just have design as the game. It would be cool if you could set a sub game category. This could be useful for gaming streams as well. If you are playing competitive cs go you would have a different feeling from non competitive or being able to add interactive as a sub category or join-able would all be nice things to add to the end of the game category.
We're past the point of trying to establish new concepts of what it is to be a streaming platform, Twitch did the hard work, implement it into your platform quietly and just continue to provide better options for discoverability. This is a huge idea for that. Gets my upvote
I believe that a lot of communities could benefit from this, whether defining what kind of music or web show is playing, to tagging the current play as 'first time, no spoilers' or 'speedrun' or 'retro' or whatever. There are things that people watch streamed content for that aren't the game itself, and having sub-categories would help dramatically with connecting viewers to the content they want to see.
I have to agree as a retro streamer that sub categories or/ channel tags would be a great addition to this platform. The Retro category right now, tends to be full of streams that do not put the title in their stream name, which makes it kind of a a slot roll when actually finding a stream/game that they want to watch. It also makes retro streamers like myself less likely to use it simply because of the state the category is in and I tend to use the game title itself instead of retro.

the game title and art is so important to connecting with other fans of the game when we are limited to choosing retro we may not get the fans of "paper mario" or a zelda game cuz they wont think always to check the retro catagory but a sub cat would fix this
This would also help enhance the retro community too. Rather than replacing a game title with "Retro" we could still have our game "Super Mario Bros. 3" with the "Retro" sub category
